Introduction
What is Chemical Skin Peel

TYPES OF CHEMICAL SKIN PEEL

There are many different types of chemical peels. Each type targets a specific layer of skin. These peels can produce various results. The three most common types of chemical peels are:

SUPERFICIAL SKIN PEEL

Superficial peels are the mildest type of chemical peel and target only the outermost layer of skin, known as the epidermis. Peels are usually made of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs). Examples of these are glycolic acid and salicylic acid. Superficial peels are often used to treat mild acne, fine lines, and uneven skin tone.

MEDIUM DEPTH SKIN PEEL

Medium peels target both the epidermis and the middle layer of skin, known as the dermis. Peels are often created with trichloroacetic acid (TCA). They can be used to treat severe acne, deep wrinkles, and moderate hyperpigmentation.

DEEP DEPTH SKIN PEEL

Deep peels target the epidermis, dermis, and even the lower layers of skin. These peels are typically made from phenol and are the most aggressive type of chemical peel. Deep peels can be used to treat severe hyperpigmentation, deep wrinkles, and even precancerous growths.

HOW DOES CHEMICAL  SKIN PEEL WORK

Chemical peels work by creating controlled damage to the skin, which stimulates the body's natural healing process. When the chemical solution is applied to the skin, it causes the outermost layers of skin startum corneum to peel away. This stimulates the body to create new skin cells, collagen and elastin. This can help reduce the visibility of fine lines, wrinkles, acne and hyperpigmentation.

The type of chemical solution used in a chemical peel varies. It depends on the extent of the peel and the skin problem being addressed. Superficial peels typically use a lower concentration of acid, while deep peels use a higher concentration.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TREATMENT

Before your chemical peel, our doctor will assess your skin to determine the best type of peel for your individual needs. They may also recommend that you stop using certain skincare products or medications in the days leading up to your treatment.

During the treatment, the chemical solution will be applied in layers to your skin using a brush or cotton swab. You may feel a slight burning or stinging sensation, but this should only last a few minutes. The duration of the peel solution on your skin depends on the type of peel and your skin type. It could range from a few minutes to up to an hour.

After the solution has been removed, your skin may appear red, swollen, or even blistered. This is a normal part of the healing process and should subside within a few days. You may also experience some flaking or peeling of the skin in the days following your treatment.
