It is a common ablative laser used to remove benign skin lesion. It is so precise that it removes only the skin growth while preserving the surrounding tissue. Hence, minimising recovery time. Although skin lesions can be removed by other methods such as strong chemical peel, cauterisation, cryosurgery and manual excision, they are usually difficult to control and leaves scar.

The laser Machine that is used for this purpose is CO2 laser machine.

FAQ

1.)How long is the procedure?
A.)It takes no longer than 5 minutes to reduce a skin growth of 0.5 cm. The bigger the size of the skin growth, the longer the procedure.


2.)How is it being performed?
A.)The doctor will direct the LASER beam to the skin growth and removing the lesion layer by layer. Sometimes, if the skin growth is stalked, the doctor will direct the laser beam at the stalk instead to reduce bleeding. Immediate removal is expected. Sometimes, a big lesion may beed a touch-up session to completely remove it.


3.)Is it painful?
A.)Local and topical anaesthesia will be given. After that, no pain will be felt.


4.)Is it safe?
A.)Yes. Pre-treatment and Post-treatment care will be given to enhance the effect and minimize the possible side-effects.


5.)How long will the effect last?
A.)Once removed, the skin growth will not be there anymore. Ironically some skin growth will recur if the aggravating factor is present e.g.: skin tag with necklace wearing.
